Fire on Saturday night engulfed parts of the runway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is yet to ascertain the cause of the fire but said it was a bush fire.

The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu, however stated that there were no flight disruptions.

She said the bush fire incident was  reported around runway 36 L of the airport.

“Officers of the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services are presently on ground and fire-fighting is in progress. However, the incident did not affect flights as normal flight operations continue unhindered,” Yakubu said.

The incident came barely three weeks after a fire outbreak on the runway of Port Harcourt International Airport and disrupted flight activities.

The Port Harcourt airport fire prevented a Max Air flight from taking off while an Arik flight had to return to base and a Dana flight from Abuja to Port Harcourt also had to return back to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, as it could not land due to the fire.Punch
