Barely 24 hours to the Taraba State Local Government election slated for Tuesday, June 30, gunmen suspected to be Jukun militia attacked Afogba village in Donga Local Government Area of the state.

Local residents said one person died and three others injured in the attack which occurred in the early hours of Monday.

One of the residents, Mr. Livinus Akaa, said, “They came from the Tunari axis and invaded our community. Fortunately, we got wind of their coming and many people fled.

“The person killed ran into them because it was still dark and he was slaughtered. Three others sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.”

But the Taraba State Command Police Public Relations Officer, David Misal, said he was yet to get the report when our correspondent contacted him.

Misal, however, promised to confirm the incident and get back to our correspondent.

The Jukun and Tiv ethnic groups in Taraba have been embroiled in a bloody clash in the southern part of the State since April 1, 2019, with the crisis now escalating to Bali and Gassol Local Government Areas in the central zone. Punch
