Many trapped as flood cuts off Delta community

Residents of Asaba-Ase in the Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State have called on the federal and state governments to come to their aid and rescue the community from flood.

The residents, who made the call on Sunday, described the flood that ravaged the community on Saturday, as unexpected.

Most of the residents as well as traders from different parts of the state were in the community’s market when the ravaging flood cut off the access road.

The President-General, Isoko Development Union, Chief Iduh Amadhe, who visited the Ekregbesi community in the Uzere area, were the ravaging flood cut off the road, said urgent intervention was needed to rescue the people.

Amadhe appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to urgently embark on a rescue mission to save the people and vehicles trapped by the flood.

He said, “The Saturday flood took us by surprise; it destroyed a lot of things in the community. The only access road to the community has been cut off.

“We appeal to government at all levels to come to our aid; if urgent steps are not taken, over 40 vehicles may remain at the other side of the road till November 2020.”

He expressed surprise at the sudden cutting off of the road on the Asaba-Asa Market day, adding that traders from Isoko, Urhobo, Kwale and Ijaw areas were at the market when the flood suddenly cut off the road. Punch
