The 32nd annual National Conference  of the fisheries society of Nigeria (FISON) holds from Monday 23rd  to 28th October, 2017, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

The conference which has as a theme “Harnessing the fisheries and Aquaculture value chain in a developing economy” is to be hosted by the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Willie Obiano, while Chief Audu Ogbe, the Minister of Agriculture is the guest of honor.

The keynote address will be delivered by Prof. O.A Fagbenro, titled: Aquapreneurship in Nigeria; lesson for African agriculture.

A statement issued by the national president of FISON, Dr Olajide Ayinla indicated that there will be a student’s forum starting from Monday 23rd October 2017 with Prof E.A Udeh delivering a lecture titled: Career prospects in the industry.

The farmers  forum takes place on Wednesday 25th October 2017 and it is expected to attract fish farmers, practitioners and other stakeholders from the Southeast and the neighboring States amongst others.

The high-point of the five day conference is the awards/Gala night during which eminent personalities within the fisheries society are to be honored.

Amongst those to be honored includes: Prof. Adebisi Balogun, to be conferred with the distinguish fellow for the year 2015/2016, Dr Adegoke Agbabiaka most outstanding council member for the year 2015/2016.

Others are Mrs Adedapo Okeowo, to be honored with long service award for 23yrs of dedicated service to the society and Dr Charity Oche who bags long service award for 15yrs of dedicated service to the society.
