Reigning champions Algeria crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations in the group stage on Thursday after losing 4-1 to the Ivory Coast in Douala.

The holders had to beat the Ivorians to go through but they trailed 3-0 to goals by Franck Kessie, Ibrahim Sangare and Nicolas Pepe before Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty.

Sofiane Bendebka pulled one back but Sebastien Haller completed the victory for the Ivory Coast, who will play Egypt in the last 16.
