The Anambra State Police Command has arrested the Senior Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Political Matters, Mr. Chinedu Obidigwe, for allegedly posing a threat to the life of a member of the state’s House of Assembly, Obinna Emenaka.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Nkeiru Nwode, however, said the governor’s aide was invited for interrogation, following a complaint by Emenaka.

It was gathered that the two men were interested in the 2019 House of Representatives election of Anambra East and West constituencies.

But a senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed to our correspondent that Obidigwe was arrested on Friday night.

The source added that the arrest followed a petition by the lawmaker, who accused the aide of using his driver to track his movement.

“This allegation is heavy and we intend to investigate it thoroughly and that was the reason we invited him before Governor Willie Obiano intervened.

“As a result, we allowed him to go but told him to come back to make a statement. We are going to do justice to the petition,” he said.

Obidigwe was summoned some months ago by the Anambra State House of Assembly for alleged abuse of power and use of siren to intimidate the public.

When contacted, the lawmaker confirmed that he wrote a petition in that respect, but refused to disclose details of the petition.

Efforts made to reach Obidigwe were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls made to his phone. Punch
