PROMINENT  leaders of All Progressives Congress, APC,  in Rivers State, yesterday, declared support for the governorship aspiration of Senator Magnus Abe, insisting that the party will not encourage imposition of candidates for the 2019 election.
A communiqué at the end of their meeting in Port Harcourt, under the aegis of Rivers State Stakeholders of APC, they also called on Senator Abe to immediately declare his ambition to contest the governorship election in 2019 on the party’s platform.

Meanwhile, a source hinted DAYLIGHT.NG that the Amaechi camp is currently jittery over this new development, but we could not reach them for reaction before going to press.

The communiqué by the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner  for Justice in former Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s administration, Mr Worgu Boms and member representing Ikwerre/Emohua constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr  Chidi Wihioka, Ipalibo  Harry, Felix Nwaeke and three others,  also urged members with elective ambition in the party for 2019 to begin to rally support, stressing that it will make the party stronger ahead of the general poll.

Some other leaders of the party at the gathering were   Senator Wilson Ake, former Commissioners under former Governor Amaechi, Mr Ipalibo Harry, Felix Nwaeke,  Marcus Ejii,   Allwel Onyeso and former Chief of Staff to former Governor Amaechi, Chief Tony Okocha. The communiqué said that the party will encourage a level playing  field for all members to express their ambitions, emphasising that the party was set to dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2019.

“The meeting called on Abe to present himself for the 2019 governorship election under our party, the APC,  as he clearly has the support and approval of a vast majority of members,” the communiqué said. Earlier in their separate speeches, the member representing Ikwerre / Emohua federal constituency  in the House of Representatives,  Mr  Chidi Wihioka  and Senator Ake lauded the sterling qualities of Senator Abe, adding that it was proper for the party to go into the governorship election against the PDP in 2019 with its best.
