Anti-Igbo threat: Police beef up security in Kano

 

The Kano State Police Command on Friday reassured all non-indigenes residing in the state that it was ready to protect their lives and property.

The command also advised residents to ignore a threat made by Arewa youth groups that the Igbo had till October 1 to leave the North, describing it as an empty threat.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, Magaji Majiya, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, stated that the police would not take the threat lightly, adding that they had since beefed up security, especially in identified flashpoints, so as to ensure the security of lives and property of all Nigerians.

According to Majiya, the CP ordered the deployment of its crack strike force, who were specially trained to deal with disturbances, to both entry and exit points of the metropolis, including border towns.

The PPRO added that the command had also intensified round-the-clock motorised patrol of the metropolis to keep “undesirable elements at bay.”

He gave the assurance that all non-indigenes would receive police protection and asked them to go about their businesses without fear.

According to him, the police in Kano has since been put on red alert, so there is no hiding place for mischief makers in the state.Punch
