The ruling All Progressives Congress on Saturday defeated opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the two polling units located inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja during the chairmanship and councillor ship elections held in the Federal Capital Territory.

In the two polling units- 021 and 022, APC garnered 290 while PDP got 132 votes in the chairmanship election.

A further breakdown of the figure showed that APC got 162 votes in PU 021 and 128 votes in PU 022 while PDP got 70 votes in PU 021 and 62 votes in PU 022.

For the councillor election, APC garnered 273 votes while PDP got 151 votes from the two polling units.

The election inside the Presidential Villa, like in other parts of the FCT like Asokoro, Maitama and Garki areas among others, witnessed low turnout of voters.

As of 11 a.m., three hours after voting started, the 14 voting points located on a playing field inside the Presidential Villa were devoid of huge voters that participated in the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Members of the National Youth Service Corps who served as the Independent National Electoral Commission’s ad hoc staff were in a relaxed mood, unlike what was obtainable during the last elections.

Some were busy gisting, some others were seen glued to their mobile phones while others were taking a nap.

Only a handful of ballot papers were seen inside the 24 ballot boxes placed in front of the voting units, an indication that only a few people had voted as of the time.

The voting cubicles were also empty.

Security agents also were in a relaxed mood as they took their seats under trees.

Some electoral officers were seen falling over one another to attend to a few voters who approached the polling units.

“Leave him, he is my customer.” “No, he is mine,” our correspondent heard two corps members scrambling for a voter.

Having collected and scrutinised his Permanent Voter Card, they later directed the middle-aged man to his polling unit.

During the February 23 elections, plastic chairs were provided for voters who wished to stay back to witness the announcement of results.

Such an arrangement was not made on Saturday as there was no need for it. Punch
