Gov. Obiano

The incumbent governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, on Tuesday emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the November 18 poll in the state.

Obiano emerged in a primary of the party held at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka, the state capital.

The governor, who was the sole contestant in the primary, polled 1,070 “yes”votes from a total accredited delegates of 1,092.

There were 11 “no” votes against the governor’s candidature, whereas 11 votes were invalid.

Speaking, a former national chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, expressed optimism that Obiano would be re-elected.

Umeh, who is the Director-General of Obiano re-election campaign organisation, said APGA had done great in the state, such that it would earn it victory in any election in the state.

He called on APGA’s opponents in the poll to play according to the rule, adding that the people of the state would resist any attempt by anybody or quarters to rig the November poll.Punch
