Real Madrid and reigning world footballer of the year, Cristiano Ronaldo, has set another milestone, becoming the first athlete to attain 100 million followers on Instagram.

The 32-year-old Portuguese broke the record on Thursday but still trail behind pop stars Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez on social media platform.

Ronaldo, who is a regular user of the social network, frequently displays pictures of him playing in his most recent fixtures, attracting millions of likes every time.

His closest sports rival with millions of followers is Neymar with 74m and Lionel Messi with 71m.Punch
