How army deserter who allegedly trains Biafran secret army was arrested

The police in Anambra State on Thursday arrested one Nnamdi Ebeje, believed to be an army deserter and the trainer of a secret army of a pro-Biafra group.

Parading the suspect at the Police headquarters at Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Garuba Umar, said Nnamdi was a deserter of the 20 Mechanised   Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Taraba State, in 2014.

He said the runaway soldier was in the circumstance arrested as the strategist and leader of a six-man gang of suspected armed robbers who, on several occasions, had shot and killed policemen on duty in the state.

Umar said the suspects were arrested following a painstaking investigation and intelligence gathering reports.

He added that, “On August 31, 2017, a gang of armed robbers using two motorcycles led by one Kenneth Chimezie ‘M’ age 42 years was arrested.

“Following a painstaking investigation and intelligence reports, the said suspect Kenneth Chimezie led the team of Police operatives from the Command to their trainer’s hideout where he was apprehended.

“Police investigation revealed that the trainer, One Ebeje Nnamdi, ’M’ 26 years is a deserter from 20 Mechanised Battalion Taraba State in 2014.”

“Also arrested are Peter Onyebuchi Ali ‘M’ 26 years and Ugwuokpe Nnaemeka ’M’ 26 years. The suspects are members of a six-man gang of armed robbers responsible for the attacks and killing of policemen at nipping points, robberies at fuel stations and various points including the armed robbery at Bukachi filling station, Eziowelle on 31st August 2017.”

The CP listed the items recovered from the suspects to include  336 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm AK 47 live ammunition, three empty AK 47 rifle magazines, and one locally made Double Barrel Pistol with two live cartridges.
Other items included IPOB gears (head gear, mini flag and muffler), criminal charms and ATM cards.

Also paraded on the occasion were three alleged kidnappers and 22 cult suspects. Umar said the suspects had confessed to the crime and  would be charged to court after  investigation. Punch
