IPOB: Saraki, Senators in marathon meeting

 

SENATE President Bukola Saraki Tuesday entered into a marathon meeting with the South East Senators as part of ways to find a lasting solution to the crisis between the military and the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Vanguard gathered that at the meeting, Saraki who invited other Senators to join him in the meeting with the South East Senate Caucus, discussed the Federal government’s military show of force in the South East through its body called Python dance 11, presently taking place particularly in the remote villages around Umuahia the Abia State capital.

According to the source, prelude to the meeting was dinner, just as the Senate President was said to have asked the South east Senators to drum it into the ears of their people that there must be peace and unity in Nigeria and Nigeria must not work towards disintegration.

The meeting took place at the residence of the deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, just as the categorization of IPOB as terrorist organization was said to form the discourse at the meeting

The source told Vanguard that at the meeting, the Senators discussed the need to also carry the northern senators along hence the enlargement of the meeting comprising some senators from other zones.

As at the time of the report, the meeting which was a closed session was still on going. Senate President Bukola Saraki had on Sunday kicked against the categorization of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB as a ‘terrorist organisation’ by the Nigerian military, saying that it was not only unconstitutional, that due process was not followed prior to the pronouncement of such a statement.

In a statement he personally signed Monday, Saraki had vowed that the National Assembly would carry out a holistic investigation into the crisis in the South East geo- political zone of the country. Vangurad
