Premier League star Yaya Toure and his agent Dimitri Seluk have agreed to donate £50,000 each to those affected by the suicide bomb attack at Manchester Arena on Monday night.

Twenty-two people lost their lives and a further 119 were injured in the atrocious attack with eight-year-old Saffie Roussos, 18-year-old Georgina Callander and 26-year-old John Atkinson among those killed.

A further 59 were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the bomber – named on Tuesday as 22-year-old Salman Abedi – entered the foyer and activated an improvised explosive device.

Touched by the harrowing details of young Saffie’s death, Seluk says he and the Manchester City player quickly agreed to donate the hefty sum in order to help families of the victims.

Seluk told Sky Sports News: ‘The news an eight-year-old girl went to see her favourite singer and didn’t return home is too much to bear. My son is eight years old and I can’t image the pain and the suffering that the parents of Saffie will be going through today.

Yaya and I want to help. We talked this morning about what happened and he asked me what he thought we could do.

‘We have agreed to donate £50,000 each to help the victims of this terrible crime. It doesn’t matter whether the victims are from Manchester or not.

‘Yaya is from Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), I am Russian. It doesn’t matter. Today is a chance for those of us in football to help out.’

Toure, along with a host of other football stars from both United and City, tweeted: ‘Such terrible news in Manchester. Thoughts and prayers with those affected.’

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was affected by the events at Manchester Arena with his wife and two daughters present at the Ariana Grande concert along with 21,000 other fans. All three escaped unharmed.

A JustGiving page has also been set up by local newspaper Manchester Evening News, which has raised over £550,000 since it launched earlier on Tuesday. dailymail.com
