No regrets criticising Adeboye – Uti Nwachukwu

Media personality, actor and a former winner of the television reality show, Big Brother Africa, Uti Nwachukwu, has said he has no regrets for criticising the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye. Nwachukwu had taken to his Instagram page during the week to disagree with Adeboye, who had stated that he told one of his ‘sons’ to sack his secretary because he was always excited to see her. According to the cleric, if his ‘son’ didn’t fire the secretary, he could have later had an affair with her.

Uti wrote on his Instagram page, “Religion in Nigeria is a big joke. You asked your son to fire an innocent woman because your son cannot discipline himself. Tomorrow now, the same people would say we should pray against anyone blocking our progress…religion is now a malicious, hateful tool.”

Many felt Uti had crossed the line for criticising a man of God because of the scriptural injunction which says, ‘Touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm’ but the actor maintained that he had done nothing wrong. He told Sunday Scoop, “We are all anointed people. As long as you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you are an anointed person. It is written there in the Bible. We all came from God. Gone are the days when we used to see spiritual heads as angels or spirits sent down from heaven. No, they are human beings that have been sent by God.”

Nwachukwu also stated that though he used to be regular churchgoer, he is now more of a spiritual person. “I used to be a regular churchgoer but now, I am a spiritual person. I am not with any church right now. I would not go to any church that does not promote love, compassion and peace. I wouldn’t attend any church that tells me to pray for the downfall of another person because Jesus Christ never prayed for the downfall of those that crucified him. I am not all about religion; I am for love, spirituality and kindness. I wouldn’t be a party to anything that causes division,” he said. Punch
