Nolan disagrees with United, says they needed Cavani not Ighalo

Ex-Bolton Wanderers and West Ham midfielder, Kevin Nolan, says Manchester United should have gone for the services of want-away Paris Saint-Germain striker, Edison Cavani, instead of settling for Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo joined the 20-time Premier League champions on a six-month loan deal from Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua, on January transfer deadline day.

The move for the Nigerian have divided former footballers and fans worldwide with some stating that he is not the right man to help the Red Devils revive their stuttering season.

Nolan, who had 402 Premier League caps for Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United believes that Manchester United should have gone for a more proven striker in Cavani, who was willing to leave PSG.

“Why didn’t they go and get someone like (Edinson) Cavani? He didn’t want to stay (at PSG) until the end of the summer,” said Nolan on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“He wanted to get out of PSG. He is a Manchester United player. He is going to play every game, why they went for(Odion) Ighalo, I don’t understand it.”

Ighalo arrived Manchester on Sunday and will be in line to make his debut for the club against Chelsea in the EPL on February 17. Punch
