A former Minister of Health, Prof. ABC Nwosu, on Thursday assumed office as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State, vowing that his team would end what he called cash-and-carry politics in the state’s PDP.

Nwosu’s appointment followed the dissolution of the state’s executive committee of the party under Mr. Ken Emeakayi by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led national leadership of the party about two weeks ago.

Nwosu, who noted that the state had been in the news for the wrong reasons since 1999, said the time had come to correct such a negative impression.

Addressing the press in Awka, Anambra State, Nwosu said one of his aims was to sanitise the election process in the PDP in the state.

He said a certain cabal had hijacked the party in the state thereby denying the people their right to elect the people of their choice.

While expressing optimism that the PDP would win the November 18 governorship election in the state, the former minister maintained that the primary of the party in the state must be transparent and fair.

He observed that the bane of the party had been the lack of fairness, justice and transparency in the selection of its candidates for elections.

“The universal answer to grievance is justice and fairness and the caretaker committee will ensure fairness to everybody.

“We will do everything to be fair because anybody denied justice is not really interested in peace.  We shall make sure that the party is not owned by anybody or any faction.

“The party shall go back to the people, who are the original owners so that they can choose who they want, not those who the committee wants or the factions want.”

Stressing that the committee was set up by a resolution of the National Convention of the party, he added, “We are hopeful that we will be able to bring all the stakeholders back to the PDP fold and we shall work hard to bring Anambra State and its governor back to national politics and produce the next governor in the state.

“Anambra people must learn to vote, it can’t be cash-and-cash anymore.”

The caretaker committee later inaugurated members of the local government committees of the party at the PDP secretariat at Udoka, Awka, the state capital.Punch
