Obi visits London, drums support for Nigeria

R-L: Obi, Bruce and Lord in London

Mr. Peter Obi along with Senator Ben Murray-Bruce met with leading members of the UK Conservative government, including Boris Johnson, MP; Lord Marland (Lord chairman commonwealth); Rory Stewart, MP; Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice with responsibility for prisons; and UK Government Minister for Africa, Harriet Baldwin, amongst others.

At the various meetings, Mr. Peter Obi, the Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, stressed the need to support Nigeria in turning around the economy for it to start absorbing her teeming unemployed population through employment-generation. He also called on them to support the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law in Nigeria.

Explaining further, Obi said that what should be of uppermost in the minds of all Nigerians and men of goodwill was how to harness the abundant human and natural resources in Nigeria for the benefit of the entire people of the country and not for a select few.

In his words, “expanding the resources of the state benefits everybody, but encouraging individual wealth impoverishes the people.” In his reply, Mr. Johnson expressed support for the Nigerian judiciary and said he would press for the observance of the rule of law to be followed even as he declared that Nigeria as a country needs to promote true democratic values to achieve true greatness.Vanguard
