Ohanaeze to INEC: Give us credible election in Anambra

The Anambra State Chapter of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to rekindle people’s hope and belief in the country’s electoral system by conducting a free, fair and credible election in the November 18 poll in the state.

It enjoined the electoral body to live up to expectation as the institution saddled with the responsibility of securing people’s franchise through election.

The state President of the Igbo apex socio-cultural organization, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene made the call on Sunday at a church service to mark  Nigeria’s 57th Independence anniversary.

He said the electoral umpire would be held responsible for any flaws in the poll.

He said,”INEC must live up to expectation in making sure that the election is credible, ‘one man one vote’. If there is any problem with the election, not just  Anambra State, but the entire South East would hold INEC responsible. We don’t want falsification of results, we cannot tolerate it.”

He said the Ohanaeze was in the church to hand over the Igbo cause to God as the country progresses as a democratic nation, and to pray for a  peaceful conduct of the governorship election in the state in November.

He added,”The residents of the state are peaceful people and will want the election to hold as scheduled.

The Election in Anambra is a constitutional matter and it is sacrosanct. Nobody, including the INEC has the right to stop the election from holding.”Punch
