Oranusi explains why Obiano is afraid of Nwoye

Former chief whip of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chuba Oranusi has said that the incumbent governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano is in fear of the emergence of Dr. Tony Nwoye as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Oranusi in a statement yesterday said the governor is afraid because of the successes achieved by Nwoye as the legislator representing him, the governor in the House of Representatives.

Oranusi noted that the governor did everything to ensure that a candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA won the election but that the people of Anambra East/West turned against him even as incumbent governor to ensure that Nwoye became their representative.

“Just about two and a half years ago, Obiano as governor of the state did everything possible to stop Tony Nwoye emerge as the member of the House of Representatives. The governor’s mission was logical; he and Nwoye come from the same Anambra East/West Federal Constituency. Tony Nwoye was doing the near impossible: to win election in the home constituency of the governor.

“It goes to drive the popularity of Nwoye and as such the unpopularity of the governor that the governor with all the power of incumbency could not stop an opposition candidate to represent him in the House of Representatives.

“It is a feat that is perhaps difficult to find in Nigeria. If Dr. Nwoye can defeat him at home, you could well imagine the fear in the camp of the governor outside his base where he is known to be even far less popular.”

“I was as such not surprised when I started hearing rumours of the hand of the governor in the protraction of the crisis that followed the declaration of the results of the primary election. “A governor that has devoted much more time to ostentation with little to show for his efforts would understandably apply every Machiavellian tactic to divide the opposition.” Vanguard
