The Osun State Police Command has said an operative of the Department of State Services, David Olowoporoku, and two others are perpetrators of the alleged attack on a cop, Rauf Fawale, which claimed his life.

Addressing journalists at the state command headquarters on Tuesday, the police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said the DSS leadership had informed the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Wale Olokode, of ongoing disciplinary action against those complicit in the matter.

Corporal Fawale, a father of three attached to the Estate Police Division in Osogbo, on Sunday, January 24, 2021, died at a private hospital in Osogbo.

He sustained a head injury after being attacked by three DSS men around Oke Fia.

Opalola said, “We heard that the deceased was beaten by three personnel of the DSS. He was beaten by one David Olowoporoku and two others. The names of others have not been ascertained.

“They beat him to a coma and he was rushed to hospital and after that, someone informed his DPO. He sustained an injury on the head. The doctors tried to save his life, but he eventually died. Before he gave up the ghost, he could not talk again.

“The CP, Olawale Olokode, met with the Director of DSS and he promised to produce the three suspects. He even said those involved are facing disciplinary actions already. The CP insisted that those involved should be brought to us since the matter involved a policeman for discreet investigation and prosecution.”

Meanwhile, the family of the late policeman on Tuesday met the Osun police commissioner in his office.

The deceased family stormed the command headquarters in three vehicles, but only five of them were allowed to meet the CP.

The meeting was ongoing when our correspondent left the premises. Punch
