Robbers block Lokoja-Abuja highway, kill four
Suspected armed robbers numbering about 10 on Sunday evening along Lokoja-Abuja Federal Highway attacked some passengers travelling along the Lokoja-Abuja federal highway.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that many vehicles ran into the robbers who shot at the passengers and killed yet to be ascertained number of commuters.
A source, who was at the scene of the attack, said the armed robbers blocked the highway with stones and other dangerous objects to prevent the motorists from escaping from the trap.
Some motorists could not escape as bandits opened fire on the passengers killing and wounding some of them.
The incident took place after Gada biu, before Kweita, a community along the Lokoja-Abuja federal highway.
The eyewitness report said a team of military men however ran into the scene and helped to convey the corpses to the hospital.
The eyewitness report could not immediately ascertain the actual number of casualties.
The Police Public Relation Officer of Kogi State Police, Command William Ayah, said that Kogi State command could not comment on the attack as the place falls within the Abuja command.
When our correspondent contacted the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, he confirmed the attack. He said, “It was true. Four persons died in the attack and we have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident.” Punch
