Robbers shoot Lagos policeman, steal gun

 

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State, has arrested four hoodlums for robbing and shooting a police corporal attached to the Meiran Police Station, Lagos.

The suspects – Segun Sunday, aka Baba Ife; Rasaki Owolabi, aka Anjongolo; Kazeem Oladipupo, aka Ire; and Adekunle Ibrahim, aka Oshodi – were alleged to have attacked the corporal, Aladejare Adedeji, in his car and dispossessed him of his service rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

The PUNCH learnt that the robbers were operating in the Meiran area when they spotted the policeman in his car.

They were said to have opened fire on him and made away with valuables in his car, leaving him for dead.

It was learnt that operatives of the Zonal Intervention tracked down and arrested the suspects.

The police team reportedly recovered the policeman’s AK-47 rifle, one cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, one single-barrelled cut-to-size gun and five live cartridges from the robbers.

Thirty-two-year-old Alade said he bought guns for the gang, adding that he bought each for N30,000 from Benin Republic.

The driver of the group, Owolabi, said he had followed them for two operations, including when the policeman was attacked in Meiran.

He said, “I was paid N4,000 and N7,000 respectively. I don’t carry guns, I am just their driver.”

Another suspect, Babalola, who hails from Abeokuta, Ogun State, said he became a member of the gang after being released from prison for buying a gun.

The AIG, Adamu Ibrahim, said the suspects would be arraigned in court at the end of investigation. Punch
