Sultan declares today Sallah as Buhari greets from London
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, said, yesterday, that Sallah to mark the end of Ramadan fast is today after the new moon was sighted in parts of the country, including Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
The Sultan, therefore, asked Muslims all over Nigeria to cease to fast as it is not permitted to fast on Sallah day. Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari sent a Sallah message, last night,congratulating Nigerians while cautioning against reckless statements or actions. Senate President Bukola Saraki, several state governors, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, among others, sued for unity and peace on the occasion of the Sallah celebration.
Buhari congratulated Muslims and Christians on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitr, urging all citizens to resolve to live in peace and avoid making reckless statements. The President in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, urged Nigerians to live together in peace and unity so as to make the country a great one. President Muhammadu Buhari Saraki, in his message, urged all Nigerians and Muslims to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, peace, patriotism and love for one another as a way of building a strong and united nation, just as he reiterated his call on Nigerians to continue to pray for the quick recovery of President Buhari.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, called on the Muslim Ummah to sustain the virtues of endurance, discipline, and love imbibed during the holy month of Ramadan. In his message, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu asked those calling for violence or issuing quit notice to other Nigerians to leave their areas to desist from such. The statement, issued by Tinubu Media Office and signed by his Media Adviser, Tunde Rahman, was entitled “Eid-el-Fitri Message: The Spirit, Strength of Our Diversity”.Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State urged Nigerians to embrace the virtues of tolerance, unity and cooperation regardless of ethnic, religious or social status. Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State urged Muslims to embrace peace, love and understanding. Ogun State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, urged Muslim faithful to continue to live in peace and unity as the celebrate the Eid-el-Fitri. The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, felicitated with Muslim faithful. Former Senate President David Mark, after taking stock of the unfolding sectional agitation in the country, reminded promoters of divisive agenda in Nigeria of the consequences of a fragmented nation, just as he warned that the consequences of another civil war for the country will be devastating and catastrophic not only for Nigeria, but for the entire African continent.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu representing Lagos Central enjoined Muslim faithful and Nigerians in general to shun all attempts to cause disunity in the land. In her message entitled, “One Nigeria”, the senator said Nigerians need one another and the variety of our contributions. The Public Relations Officer of the United Muslims Council of Nigeria (Lagos Branch), Chief Ayinde Lawal, urged Muslims to abide by the Holy Quran and its seven pillars.
