Syrian crisis: Terror suspect commits suicide in prison custody

Syria crisis

A terror suspect in custody hung himself in his jail cell, the Justice Ministry said on Wednesday.

The terrorist, Abdullah K., was arrested in June alongside his three brothers on suspicion of membership of the al-Nusra Front — al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria that later split from the group and changed its name to Jabhat Fatah al-Sham.

The Justice Ministry in Hamburg, Germany, said there had been no indication that the Syrian terrorist, Abdullah K, had been suicidal, and that he had seemed “stable’’ during an assessment by a psychologist on August 25.

The man and his brothers were accused of fighting Syrian forces and also for being members of the Kurdish YPG militia in the northern city of Ras al-Ayn from 2012 onwards..Punch
