The Katsina state police command says three people were killed and 11 others injured when bandits attacked Jikamashi town in Musawa LGA on Tuesday.
A statement issued on Wednesday by Aliyu Abubakar, spokesperson for the command, said the assailants struck the community around 6 pm before being repelled by a joint team of security operatives.
“On March 10, at about 6:05 p.m., a distress call was received at Musawa Division reporting that suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, had attacked Jikamashi village, Musawa LGA. They injured 14 persons before the arrival of security agencies,” the statement reads.
The command spokesperson noted that a joint security team, led by the DPO, quickly responded to the scene.
“The team engaged the bandits in a gun duel, successfully foiling the attack. The injured victims were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, three of the injured victims were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, while 11 are responding to treatment,” Abubakar said.
He added that Bello Shehu, commissioner of police, condemned the attack and directed a thorough investigation into the incident to apprehend the perpetrators.
In response to the rising attacks in the country, Chris Musa, the minister of defence, held an emergency meeting with the service chiefs, directing them to rejig military operations in the north-west and north-east. Thecable
