The crisis rocking the Nigeria Professional Football League side, Sunshine Stars, deepens as players and staff of the team are yet to start preparations for the 2020/21 season.

The Akure Gunners have been faced with some setbacks in readiness for the new NPFL season with reports of uncertainty surrounding the future of some of their players due to their unpaid salaries.

The players had boycotted camp in October when they were expected to return to commence training for the league.

In a chat with The PUNCH, a team official of the club who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that they are yet to start preparing for the new season.

“I have to tell you the truth, we are yet to start preparing for the new season,” the team official said.

“The problem is purely administrative and they are in the best position to talk about it but all I can say is that we haven’t resume training.”

A player of the club who also spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed to The PUNCH that they are yet to start training.

He said, “The players of Sunshine Stars haven’t been paid and we have not resumed training. The players have refused to train because of the unpaid salaries.” Punch
