Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State, on Thursday, visited Gora village in Safana Local Government Area of the state, where armed bandits reportedly killed 10 residents on Tuesday evening.

The victims were among the men, who visited the farm of another resident, who was killed on the same day by a suspected herdsman.

It was learnt that the herdsman killed the farmer when the deceased accosted him for grazing his cattle on his farm.

The caretaker Chairman, Safana LGA, Abbah Dayyabu, told Northern City News that when the villagers heard of the incident, they mobilised to the farm, only for them to come under attack by yet to be identified hoodlums.

He put the number of the dead at 10, adding that one villager, who was injured, was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Katsina.

Dayyabu said, “I am telling you authoritatively that there was no farmers/herders’ clash at Gora. What happened was that a farmer was killed by a herdsman, who was grazing his cattle on the farmer’s farm.

“The villagers went to the farm where the bandits attacked and killed some of them. They were victims of the bandits, who were from the surrounding forests.

“The incident happened on Tuesday evening, while the state government, in collaboration with security men, responded swiftly. Ten people died, while one, who was injured, has been taken to a hospital in Katsina for treatment.

“The problem of banditry here requires collaboration among the state government, the Federal Government and security operatives to nip it in the bud.”

Speaking to the residents during the visit, Masari urged them to be vigilant and report any suspicious movements to security agencies.

“When going to your farms, don’t go alone; also, ensure that you report any suspicious movement to the security operatives around,” the governor said.Punch
