The camp of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed speculations that security and anti-graft agencies may launch surprise trumped-up charges against him ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi’s former campaign spokesman and National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko, dismissing the speculation in an interview with The PUNCH, said there was no cause for alarm.
He insisted that the former Anambra State governor had no criminal record and had never been indicted for corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Department of State Service.
Tanko made the clarification against the backdrop of reports suggesting that Obi and other opposition heavyweights in the African Democratic Congress may be targeted for arrest amid the alleged persecution and travails of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. Punch
