Bala Mohammed hosts Peter Obi, southeast leaders in Bauchi

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday received African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Peter Obi alongside South-East political stakeholders in Bauchi, as discussions on national unity and political cooperation intensified.

Mohammed said the meeting focused on strengthening national cohesion and exploring broader collaboration, stressing that the engagement was not driven by partisan interests.

“Neither PDP nor ADC is standing alone. I am a freelance politician now, and my party is in limbo as well. We are looking up to the judiciary,” he said.

He added that ongoing consultations among political leaders aimed at fostering alliances ahead of future elections, noting that a common platform would eventually be necessary.

“We cannot operate without a platform. At the end of the day, the current political situation may even help bring us together and improve our chances of winning elections,” he said.

The governor described Obi’s visit as symbolic, noting that it reflects efforts to build bridges across regions and promote national unity. However, Mohammed declined to comment on speculation regarding possible defection or party realignment amid increasing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 elections.

Previous attempts to align Mohammed and his supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly collapsed over disagreements on power-sharing arrangements. Nation
