African Women Lawyers Association plans big for Day of the African Woman 2021

The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) is rolling out the red carpets to celebrate and promote this year’s edition of the Day of the African Woman, in a very big and spectacular way.

The high profile event billed to hold elaborately on Thursday, July 29, at the upscale event centre, Hybrid-13, Town Planning Way, Ilupeju, Lagos, is expected to be graced by leading Nigerians drawn from both the public and private sectors as well as the international community.

Among dignitaries expected are: First Lady, Aisha Buhari, wife of vice president, Dolapo Osinbajo,  First Lady of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, vice president of Liberia, Jewel Taylor,  Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, ex president of Liberia and  Joyce Banda, former president of Malawi.

Others include: Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Reps, Femi Gbajabiamila, Lagos Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, Women Affairs minister, Tallen Pauline, Amina Muhammed, deputy secretary general, UN, among other eminent Nigerian women.

According to the president of AWLA, Amanda Demechi Asagba, the theme of the event is: “Achieving Equal Representation for Women: Panacea for inequality, indignity, insecurity and underdevelopment.”

Also speaking, secretary general of the leading female lawyers association, Adepeju Oduye-Quadri, added that sub themes at the forthcoming event will include: “Participatory democracy, gender inclusion, women in politics, how prepared? Mentoring, support, empowerment and protection…Trafficking in persons…Women in leadership…SDG Goals 5 and 16…among many others”

“We look forward to seeing you,” concluded Funmi Oluyede and Efe Etomi, both chairman, programs and country representative AWLA, Nigeria.
