Again, gunmen raze Imo High Court building

Gunmen on Saturday razed the High Court building in Orlu, Imo State.

Sources told our correspondent that the suspects burnt a section of the court housing sensitive documents. On arrival, the gunmen were said to have opened fire on the building and threw explosives on top of the roof.

It’s the second attack on the court building, the first being 2018 when gunmen burnt part of the building.

A source said, “Gunmen had in 2018 attacked the court building. On arrival on Saturday, they shot and set fire to the building. They targeted the section housing sensitive documents like files and other court documents.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association in Orlu Branch, Barnabas Munonye, who condemned the attack, called on the authorities to apprehend the culprits.

Spokesperson for the police in the state, Mike Abattam, who also confirmed the arson attack, said the police had launched an investigation into the incident.

The development came a few days after some gunmen attacked the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Owerri, the state capital.

Meanwhile, the Orlu High Court is located close to a security checkpoint as well as the Divisional Police headquarters. Punch
