A renewed communal clash has broken out in Cross River State between the people of Alesi in Ikom Local Government and Ochon in Obubra Local Government.

From Monday evening to mid yesterday, the federal highway along the Obubra-Ikom axis was blocked while some travellers and their vehicles were attacked.

It took a combined security personnel including soldiers to clear the highway.

The warriors were mostly youths from the community.

The Nation gathered that a former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Emmanuel Ibeshi, was one of the notable victims who ran into the warring youths yesterday morning.

He survived the attack but his vehicle was vandalised.

Police spokesperson Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident, saying the state Deputy Governor and the Police Commissioner have met with the communities.

She said normalcy has been restored on the federal highway, adding that the boundary commission will have to address the issues at stake.
