Katsina

The Katsina State Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) yesterday called for the immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Professor Sanusi Mamman, over allegation of misconducts.

The CSOs said the call for the suspension of the state-owned university VC became necessary following the constitution of the panel of enquiry by the institution’s Governing Council to investigate the allegation leveled against him.

The coalition in a statement made avaliable to journalists in Katsina by its Chairman, AbdurRahman Abdullahi, said the suspension of the embattled vice chancellor would give room for credible, free and fair investigation.

According to the CSOs, “The coalition called on the council for the sake of fairness and justice to suspend the vice chancellor while the investigation is ongoing to give room for credible, free and fair investigation.

“In all honesty, this kind of investigation requires access to evidences and testimonies of which the continuous occupation of the VC’s position may cause alterations and fabrications in accessibility to implicating documents.

“And may also create fear of victimisation in the people who may be required to give testimonies or want to come forward with evidences against the vice chancellor.”

The coalition equally admonished the governing council of the university to suspend all recruitments made by the vice chancellor until proper review is made to ensure that the recruited staff members have the requisite qualifications. Thisday
