Chimaroke Nnamani, representing Enugu-East senatorial district, says he has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Nnamani, former Enugu governor, who announced his exit from the PDP in a statement in Abuja on Monday, said he had consulted with his associates and constituents and decided to quit the party because of irreconcilable differences with its national leadership.

Mr Nnamani reaffirmed his acquaintance with President-elect Bola Tinubu and promised to continue to partner him.

He expressed optimism that Mr Tinubu’s regime would promote good governance, the rule of law and human rights in the interest of all Nigerians.

Mr Nnamani had, in the build-up to the 2023 general elections, insisted that he would not rescind his decision to support Mr Tinubu.

He said he aligned with Mr Tinubu because the PDP breached its constitution by subverting the principle of power rotation.

Mr Nnamani lost his reelection bid to the Senate to Labour Party candidate Kelvin Chukwu.

The Labour Party candidate polled 69,136 to beat Mr Nnamani, who scored 48,701 votes.  Peoples Gazette
