There have been public outcry in Taraba over the N3,500 application fee charged by the State Civil Service Commission for prospective applicants into the state workforce.

Some of the applicants, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said  the fee charged as outrageous and unacceptable.

The Taraba State Civil Service Commission had in a circular dated 5th July, 2021 and signed by the Commission’s Chairman, John Mamman, announced the recruitment.

The circular directed prospective applicants to submit an application online via the state Civil Service Commission’s website, www.csc.tr.gov.ng after payment of N3,500 to have access to the online application form.

Some of the prospective applicants accused the government of extorting money from helpless unemployed youths.

One of them said, “In 2017, a similar exercise was conducted and we paid N1,000 application fee for the forms and millions of naira was realised from the exercise.

“Only about 300 people were hired out of the nearly 300,000 people that applied for the exercise.

“Government is only trying to make money from us the job seekers and it’s very unfortunate.”

Another applicant said, “We all are looking for  government jobs, but my major concern is the  lack of transparency of the process.

“At the end of the day, politicians will still come behind and get employment for their people.” Punch
