A female lecturer at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin, who was identified simply as Mrs Zakariyyah, has been beaten to a pulp in her office by a 400-level student of the institution.

The lecturer is said to be recuperating in an undisclosed hospital.

The student, identified simply as Captain Walz, reportedly attacked the lecturer in her office, as the victim reportedly sustained severe injuries.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the student had sought the help of the lecturer, who was his project’s supervisor, because he did not observe the compulsory Students Industrial Work Scheme.

It was gathered that the student allegedly “entered the lecturer’s office and started banging her table, moved closer to her and slapped her.”

“The lecturer tried to escape and he kept pursuing her; she ran into an office, but Captain Walz broke the window and started punching her hard.

“In an attempt to escape, the lecturer fell, sustained a head cut and was strangled by the student till she fell into a coma,” a source added.

The Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, Mr Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.

He said, “This is to confirm that Mrs Zakariyyah is now relatively stable and recuperating after the ugly incident of Thursday, when she was attacked by a 400-level male student.

“A visit by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, in company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Oladiji; the Director, University Health Services, Dr Odunola, and a few other staff to the victim and her family, this morning, Saturday, confirmed that.

“The vice chancellor described the incident as sad and unfortunate, assuring that justice would be done in the matter. Punch
