The Eco Bank, Gboko branch, Gboko Local Government area has been shut.

The Nation gathered that closure of the branch in Gboko which is the second largest commercial hub in the state may not be unconnected with the present economic hardship.

In Makurdi, the state capital, the bank had earlier shut Wurukum and old GRA branches thus retaining only one branch.

The Benue branch Manager told The Nation yesterday in Makurdi that the bank is still in robust financial health.

He said the closure has nothing to do with any distress but a fall out of the advancement in the banking sector.

He explained that with the advent of new technology like POS (Point of Sale) platforms, online banking and bank apps, it was needless keeping several branches.

Some customers of the bank, who spoke with our correspondent, expressed fears that the removal of oil subsidy and the sharp increase in the cost of running businesses may have taken a negative toll on the bank. Nation
