Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday, expressed worry that Boko Haram insurgency has lasted 15 years without an end in sight, much longer than the 1967-1970 civil war, which lasted only 30 months.
The former President warned that Nigeria’s fight against insurgency and banditry will persist unless the military undergoes specialised foreign training, improves intelligence gathering and deploys modern technology.
He spoke on Sunday while featuring virtually on the Toyin Falola Interviews, where he argued that Nigeria’s security forces remain trained for “conventional warfare” rather than the fluid, guerrilla-style asymmetric conflicts overwhelming the country.
Sunday’s edition, anchored by Prof. Toyin Falola, had Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Kingsley Moghalu, as panellists, with Obasanjo as the featured guest. Punch
