In a historic moment for the club, Bayer Leverkusen lifted the Bundesliga trophy for the first time in their 120-year existence, dethroning Bayern Munich’s 11-year reign with a resounding 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen on Sunday.

Xabi Alonso’s side knew a win would secure the title with five games to spare, and they delivered a dominant performance befitting champions, extending their remarkable unbeaten run to 43 games across all competitions.

Florian Wirtz’s hat-trick and goals from Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka sealed the triumph, but Boniface, whose goalscoring exploits have been pivotal to Leverkusen’s title charge, was quick to deflect individual praise. Punch
