CHAN: Eagles to play Ghana or Benin

Nigeria will face either Ghana or Benin Republic in the second round of the qualifying series for the 2022 African Nations Championship in Algeria, The PUNCH reports.

The draws for the CHAN tournament, which was held on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt will see 18 teams take part in the next final tournament in Algeria next January and February.

The draw was steered by CAF’s head of competition Khaled Nassar, who was assisted by Algerian legend Djamal Menad.

Both Ghana and Benin Republic clash in Zone West A first-round qualifiers, with the winners squaring up against the Super Eagles B, the 2018 runners-up.

In Zone West A, Liberia will face Senegal, while Sierra Leone battle Cape Verde. The other games in the zone will see Gambia tackle Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast against Burkina Faso and Togo versua Niger Republic.

Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, and Chad will lock horns against one another to present the three representatives in the Central Zone.

In the same vein, Central East will present three countries from Ethiopia, South Sudan, Somalia, and Tanzania.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are eyeing a third appearance at the biennial African football showpiece, but they must scale the Comoros hurdle in the first round. Punch
