Cholera kills 63 in one week in 10 states – NCDC

Epidemiological report by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has shown that between August 16 and August 22 a total of 3,098 suspected cholera cases were recorded in 12 states, while 63 persons died in 10 states.

The states with the suspected cases of cholera are Bauchi, 1,145; Katsina, 691; Zamfara, 454; Yobe, 216; Sokoto, 196; Jigawa, 187; Kano, 80; Niger, 79; Borno, 30; FCT, 11; Adamawa, 6; and Kebbi, 3.

According to the report, Bauchi, Katsina and Zamfara accounted for 73.9 percent of the 3,098 suspected cases.

The deaths were recorded in Katsina, 19; Bauchi, 16; Niger, 7; Zamfara, 6; Jigawa, 4; Sokoto, 4; Borno, 4; Yobe, 1; Kano, 1; and Adamawa, 1. The national case fatality rate (CFR) was 2 percent.

In total, since the beginning of the year, 58,698 suspected cases with 2,035 deaths have been recorded in 23sStates and the FCT.

Furthermore, the age group 5 to 14 years is the most affected for both male and female. Also, of all suspected cases, 51 percent are male and 49 percent female. Punch
