Cincinnati Masters: Djokovic Makes History With Win Over Federer

cincinnatiFormer world number one Novak Djokovic defeated veteran Roger Federer in Cincinnati on Sunday to become the first player to win all nine Masters 1,000 tournaments.

Djokovic, who had lost the Cincinnati final to Federer on three previous occasions, edged the seven-time champion 6-4 6-4.

“It’s a very special moment,” the reigning Wimbledon champ said. “It’s the first time I get to stand with a winning trophy in Cincinnati.”

Djokovic will now look to take his form into the US Open, which starts on 27 August, having previously won two titles at Flushing Meadows.
