The Adamawa State Police Command said it had begun a probe into the death of a 35-year-old man, Ibrahim Usman, who was allegedly hit by a stray bullet fired by a team of the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the incident happened at about 4 pm on Wednesday.
According to the PPRO, the Divisional Police Officers of the area where the incident took place led a team to rescue the victim at a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Nguroje stated, “The Adamawa State Police Command is currently investigating a tragic incident involving the alleged shooting of one Ibrahim Usman, aged 35, of Mujara, Mubi South LGA, by a stray bullet reportedly discharged by a patrol team of the Nigeria Customs Service.
“The incident occurred on July 16, 2025, at approximately 1600 hours. Upon receipt of the distress call, officers from ADSU Gude Divisional Police headquarters, led by the DPO, responded promptly.
“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where he was later confirmed dead.”
He added that the state Commissioner of Police has directed a discreet investigation into the matter while the Customs authority has been informed of the incident. Punch
