Former PlantashunBoiz member, Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, aka Blackface, has accused Asake of song theft.

The singer claimed ownership of ‘Joha’, stating he didn’t grant permission for a remix to be made.

“Joha” the seventh smash track off Asake’s debut album “Mr Money with the Vibes’, released on September 8, 2022.

Its official video released on October 6, 2022, was shot by popular music video director and cinematographer, TG Omori.

Blackface’s accusation surfaced after Omori in a bid to silence a troll who claimed the value of his works didn’t equate his high fees, revealed the cost of shooting ‘Joha’ video.

‘TG Omori doesn’t have one video that warrants his price to be $50k”, the critic wrote. “‘Joha’ video is about $165k. Crying?” Omori retorted. Reacting to the revelation by Omori, Blackface, without mentioning the name, slammed Asake for remixing his song with seeking approval. He tweeted: “You spend $165k dollars to shoot musical video for your artist. Una no fit use 100naira call the owner of the song before una remix am. Una dey form say una smart I believe. “E better make una do the right thing because this one I no go sorry for una! I dey come!” This isn’t the first time the 49-year-old ‘Ghettochild’ singer would be accusing his colleagues of intellectual property theft.

In 2019, fifteen years after the release of “African Queen” by 2Baba Idibia, Blackface, has released his own version.

The track, which was a major hit in 2004, created acrimony between the former Plantashun Boiz member and his bandmates.

Blackface accused 2face of stealing the song, claiming to have composed it, and even demanded its ownership.

As a result, 2Baba filed a N50m defamation suit against his former group member and colleague.

However, in November of the same year, the duo signed an undisclosed settlement agreement at the Ikeja High Court shortly after 2baba dropped the defamation. Nation
