Popular comedian, Owen Gee, has come out to share his own battle with depression

He revealed he almost committed suicide in the year 2017

According to him, drugs don’t calm depression Depression is arguably one of the most ignored and underestimated fatal illnesses in the world.

The fact that it is rarely noticed in individuals gives cause for alarm. In these part of the world, it is believed to be uncommon and thus ignored.

This erroneous belief has led to several suicides and suicide attempts. Now, since depression is known to cause sadness in people, one would hardly believe a comedian who makes people laugh for a living, would suffer from such a thing. Well, popular Nigerian comedian known as Owen Gee has come out to prove that sometimes, laughter is only a facade.

During the unveiling of Live and not Die, an initiative aimed at stemming the disturbingly growing rate of suicide in the country, the Lagos-based comedian revealed how he contemplated suicide in 2017 and it was during this period that he realized pills did not help depression.

In his words:“It was then I realized that no drug could calm depression. There was hardly anyone I didn’t take. There was a time I was sleeping on drugs. There was a particular yellow tablet that, if I took it on Tuesday, on Wednesday I would only be prompted to barely wake up, eat and go back to sleep even before I finished eating. I would not wake up until Thursday.”

On how he overcame the situation, he stated that he came to the realization that it was up to him to handle the situation he was in and thus, live to take care of his children.

He further advised youths to shun the fake life which he said is prevalent in the showbiz industry.naij
