Full list: Family members fight dirty over ex-Oyo gov Alao-Akala’s properties in Nigeria, UK, US

Akala
A legal dispute over the estate of former Oyo State Governor, Adebayo Alao-Akala, has brought to light an extensive portfolio of properties owned by the late politician across Nigeria and abroad.
The controversy stems from proceedings at an Oyo State High Court, where his first daughter, Oluwatoyin Alao Aderinto, is contesting the management of the estate.
In a suit marked I/443/2024, Aderinto is seeking judicial intervention over what she described as irregularities in the administration of her father’s assets.
Named as defendants in the case are Oluwakemi Alao-Akala and Olamide Alabi, who are identified in court documents as executors and administrators of the estate.
Aderinto told the court that, as the first daughter of the deceased, she holds both legal and equitable interests in the estate.
She claimed that some of the assets had already been sold without her knowledge or consent, while efforts were ongoing to dispose of others or enter joint venture agreements involving the properties.
She argued that urgent court intervention was necessary to halt further transactions that could jeopardise her interests, warning that failure to grant an injunction could lead to irreversible losses.
Alao-Akala, who also served as deputy governor of Oyo State, died on January 12, 2022, at the age of 71 in Ogbomoso.
Since his death, disagreements have persisted over the administration and sharing of his estate.
Documents presented in court revealed a wide array of assets linked to the late politician, including properties in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, the United Kingdom, the United States, as well as a five-star hotel in Ghana.
