Fans want Iheanacho out of Eagles AFCON squad
With coach Gernot set to pick his final 2019 AFCON squad, fans’ react on who should be axed from the trip to Egypt
Only one person should not make the list, and that is Kelechi Iheanacho. He didn’t have a good season, and when you look at the last time he played for Nigeria, he wasn’t impressive as well. In defence, maybe Jamilu Collins. He is the only one that is relatively inexperienced.

The first player on everybody’s mind is Iheanacho. He left Man City for a relatively smaller team, and many people thought he would perform, but in over 30 games he played for Leicester, he managed just two goals. I don’t think Iheanacho merits a place in the squad with his present form, along with defender Semi Ajayi.

I think Paul Onuachu should go because I haven’t really heard much about him. If I were Rohr, I’ll also drop Samuel Kalu.
-Aare Abubakar, architect
Iheanacho doesn’t deserve a place in the AFCON team. I also think goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is not in very good form.
-Ifetayo Adejugbagbe, software designer
The two players I feel should be dropped from the Super Eagles AFCON squad are Iheanacho and Moses Simon. Iheanacho didn’t perform well last season, he just didn’t play well.
-Dare Adewunmi, agriculturist
I think Rohr should drop Iheanacho and Leon Balogun; they both play in the EPL but didn’t perform well for their clubs.
-Tomiwo Ojo, writer
The coach should drop Paul Onuachu and Jamilu Collins. They are the only players I haven’t seen much of.
–Olawale Jayeoba, social worker
Iheanacho and Balogun shouldn’t be in the squad on current form. If they are serious about winning the AFCON, they should pick players that are fully fit and are in form.
-Adeleke Afolayan, sports journalist
Iheanacho struggled in the just-concluded EPL season. So, I think he should be the first person to be left out of the team. The other player should be Chidozie Awaziem because we have enough centre-backs to make do with.
–Raphael Abiola, sports journalist
I feel Balogun and Moses Simon should be dropped. Balogun wasn’t active at his club last season, so obviously, he won’t be fit for the AFCON because of match rustiness. Simon was just a bit part player, so he’s also not fit for the squad.
