Fears for Santi Cazorla’s career as Arsenal midfielder suffers fresh injury setback

SANTI CAZORLA’S RETURN from a long-term Achilles injury has been delayed further after the Arsenal midfielder was forced to undergo a second operation in a bid to rectify the problem.

The Spaniard has not played since injuring his ankle during the Champions League victory over Ludogrets in October 2016, with Arsene Wenger last month describing the injury as the worst he’s ever seen.

Cazorla has undergone several procedures — he previously revealed he nearly lost his foot after picking up an infection — but had been slowly working his way through an extensive rehabilitation programme ahead of a potential return in early 2018.

However, there are now fresh fears for the 32-year-old’s career after he experienced further discomfort over the last few days.

“Due to some discomfort in the tendon that has dragged on for the last few days, I have had to undergo surgery,” he wrote on Twitter.

“It is delaying the date of return to the pitch. I maintain the hope and motivation to enjoy my great passion, soccer #football.”the42.ie
