Film makers under the x-ray on Glo-sponsored CNN African Voices

Top rated Nigerian producer, director, script writer and actor, Kunle Afolayan, will be under the spotlight in the latest episode of CNN African Voices. The programme is sponsored by telecoms firm, Globacom.

The show which runs on Friday at 9.30 a.m. on CNN is repeated on at 3.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Saturday and at 11.30 a.m. and 6.30 p.m. on Sunday.

A preview of the show sent to news media shows that Afolayan who is the son of late actor, Ade Afolayan, popularly called Ade Love, studied Economics and began his working life as a banker. He soon abandoned  banking for the love of his heart, which is acting. His dream career led him to the New York Film Academy where he took a course in film making.

 

Since then, Afolayan has been an active player in the African film industry, producing award-winning movies such as The Figurine: Aroromire; Phone Swap and October 1.  The Figurine won five major awards in the African Film Academy.  Afolayan showed up at the Subversive Film Festival in 2011 where he represented the Nigerian film industry, which was adjudged as the world’s second largest in 2009.

 

In May 2013, Phone Swap premiered in France at the first edition of NollywoodWeek Paris and won the Public Choice Award. His blockbuster film, October I, got  more than 10  awards at  the 2015 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in Lagos.

Apart from Afolayan, this edition of CNN African Voices also features two other Nigerian writers, directors and producers B.B.Sasore and Derin Adeyokunnu, both highly talented artistes.

 

Sasore is the brain behind the highly successful  Island Ghost, which debuted in 2017. He  also did blockbuster God Calling,  a faith-based movie which is to be released in December, 2018.  Adeyokunnu, on her part, is the Executive Producer of  Banana Island Ghost.

 

Also on the programme is the 42-year-old Egyptian, Bushra Rozza, an actress and singer who is credited with the comedy series –Youth Online. She participated in several other series, including Emperor, The Aunt Nour and Dignitaries, which was an instant hit. She also appeared in the films, Alexandria New York, Ouija, The Game of Love, About Love and Passion and I Am Not with Them.
